Why Aha Acids Are Needed In Cosmetics

AHAs are often found on cosmetic jars ranging from serums to toners. AHAs, or alpha-hydroxy acids, are natural fruit acids: lactic, glycolic, malic, tartaric and citric. They are usually extracted from natural sources, but artificial synthetic AHAs are also frequently used in cosmetics (their quality is not affected).

AHAs promote active skin cell regeneration and a better complexion and texture. Often found in deep cleansing products, they can help dissolve dead skin cells and facilitate gentle yet effective exfoliation without irritation.

Another beneficial property of fruit acids is their ability to fight age spots. Products with AHAs are great for evening out your complexion and giving you a healthy glow. By penetrating the epidermis, AHAs promote cell regeneration and may stimulate the skin’s own production of collagen and hyaluronic acid.

When combined with other ingredients such as vitamin C, hyaluronic acid or antioxidants, they can have an anti-ageing effect by stimulating skin cell regeneration.

AHAs can be found in products for all skin types, although they are more commonly used in the care of oily, problematic skin. They help to thoroughly clean excess sebum from pores, prevent the development of acne and comedones and reduce inflammation.
